Ah, that one's tricky. Is it a large D or a small D? It only reads out the letter.

Oh, I'm sorry.
It's an uppercase D, so it's supposed to look like a wide smile.
That's a bit of an unfortunate oversight, though.
I wonder if it's possible to tweak the text-to-speech so it can recognize emoticons.

It's no trouble, I understand now that you've clarified.
So now we have :) and ;) and :D, plus :( for frowning. Are there others? Thank you again for taking the time to teach me.

It's really no problem.
Hopefully I can remember a few more.
Oh, how about this one?

If I'm interpreting correctly, you've turned the sad emoticon into an angry one?
(
is this becoming a guessing game? almost certainly.

Yes, exactly.
It's not one I really use, but it's what came to mind.

Does that mean one might also use the following as well: >:) ? It seems rather mischievous.

Yes, I don't see why not!
Experimenting with characters is how we ended up with the normal emoticons in the first place, after all.

I think that's quite enough emoticons for me to remember right now, thank you very much for your time. If there's ever anything I might offer you in return, be it information or assistance of some other kind, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

I appreciate it, but there's no need for that.

Perhaps, but there it is nonetheless.
